1. First action when the target rack is empty
If the item is physically missing from the target rack, the operator must not advance as if it had been scanned. A picking step is not considered verified without the barcode check.
Use the supported alternative rack / pick from another rack flow. BEWMS skips the current rack and searches only for another location with real available physical stock.
2. When an alternative rack is found
BEWMS moves the picking step to the new target rack. The operator goes to that location and the normal barcode-verification rule still applies.
Finding an alternative rack does not bypass barcode verification; the physical item must still be scanned.
3. When no alternative stock exists
BEWMS does not direct the operator to an empty or unverifiable rack. If no other usable rack stock exists, the step can enter STOCK_EXCEPTION.
The operator sees a Stock Exception / No available stock on another rack state. That step waits for Exception / Trouble Station resolution.
4. Impact on the order
The affected line cannot be physically completed. BEWMS does not pretend the missing unit exists and force the order into packing.
When stock or location availability blocks the order, review the Stock Bottleneck view together with the order's current waiting reason.
5. Where to continue
If alternative stock exists, continue with Alternative Rack. If none exists, use Stock Exception / Trouble Station.
If stock exists in the warehouse but not in a pickable location, review Replenishment Advice.
